As the thread title exclaims, im sure we've all felt the pain/soreness of after a practice or event. I know that stretching helps to alleviate the pain and helps recovery, but does anyone know any other effective ((and safe)) ways to help speed up the recovery of the soreness? I don't like spending a week recovering from one day

Stretching before and after fighting will help to keep your muscles nice and loose. At the event, there isn't a terrible lot else you can do for prevention.
At home recovery, stretch a lot. Do a stretch routine every four or six hours. You need to loosen up those tight and sore muscles. Drawing an as hot as you can handle being in bath and soaking is another fantastic way to help speed stuff up. Tigerbalm, Biofreeze, Icyhot, and other topical pain relieving creams can also be really, really effective. Painkillers are your friend, too. Tylenol, ibuprofen, aspirin, etc. I usually take tramydol (for myself) and Tylenol to share to events, so let me know if you feel the need to pop a pill to ease the pain at the events.

We've got back issues and stuff glore in my family. We use this stuff called Biofreeze and it is AWESOME! It's kinda like Icey-Hot but less intense....as it it doesn't burn to the point you want to scream...and I think it spells less. We get from our chiropactor though, so I'm not sure where else you could get some but I go there monthly and can stop in anytime I'm home, so if you'd want some, just give me the money or reimburse me later Not sure off the top of my head what the cost is, but it's not much and it's super effective. I lived on it after my last accident.

Another thing you can try is TigerBalm. You should be able to get it at walmart near the pharmacy.

Haha, see BioFreeze is great since Ironside and I posted about that at the exact same time. Great minds think alike. LOL.
Also, although again, this won't help til you're back home, but hot bathes are sore muscles best friend. Learning some muscle massaging might be helpful too.

If your thighs are sore, for the love of God DO NOT USE TIGERBALM ON THEM! That shit gets on your nuts and you will literally pass out from the pain...

Wow, that makes me SO glad I'm female. That also made me check the disclaimer for BioFreeze. As long as you're not breast feeding or under the age or two, you should be fine. If you are, you need to consult or physician...especially if you're a male who's breastfeeding.

I know with being out of breath most of the time, I may not seem like the best person to advise on stamina, but that's only because of laziness. In the army, basically all they do is long distance.
My best two mile run time is 14:20, which isn't amazing but for smoking a pack a day isn't terrible.
The best thing I've encountered for increasing cardiovascular stamina is called a 60-120. Sprint for sixty seconds, slow jog for one twenty. Generally you have to work up to that, so beginners start at fifteen-thirties. The idea is to get your heart pumping hard, then give it enough time to come back to a normal rate, then do it over again. When I do my 30-60's, I try to do between 15 and 20 in a run.
Also, and more basic, there is a method of breathing that helps. You generally have to work out your own rhythm, but I've found exhaling about twice as long as I inhale is mine. This keeps the oxygen flowing so your muscles will keep getting oxygen, and also keeps you from cramping up.
Other than that, it's just case of conditioning to get your body used to the running.

When I jog I usually drag out my breaths once over two steps.
Best thing i've found for bettering stamina is the elliptical machine at the gym. Run it 20 mins on med to high resistance and you'll start building up your legs and heart and lungs. Also gotta keep the pace up, mine is usually about 150-170 steps per min.

Q is right on the 60-120. I do that when I am normal jogging (not on threadmill) and why do you think my fatass can outlast most of you guys? Combine that with no less than 20 minutes on a machine. Push yourself but don't get so tired that you quit before the end of the 20 minutes. You want your heart rate at a solid, steady pace. I typically target mine to be no less than 150, as anything less is too easy and 160 or more will kill me and will tempt me to quit before times up. Why 20 mintues at a good even rate? Because it takes about 20 mintues before your body begins to burn off the fat. It will do this for about eight hours after you're done to replace the lost energy. This 20 min should not include the three min warm up and three min cool down. So, one day 60-120, next day 20 min, next day 60-120, next day 20 min. Etc. Also give yourself one full days rest each week. Try to do that on Sunday because practice doesn't count for cardio or any form of weight loss plan.

Interval training... heh...
Alright, Thanks guys, I appreciate this... i've been wanting to do this for awhile, but... i've read all about this kind of stuff, but it assumes you've been doing this all your life and not at a beginner's pace...
I'll have get a schedule going and then the will power to do it ((hooray laziness))

The only thing is I don't have a gym or anything, it's why im trying to find free ((or VERY cheap ways)) to train, and it seems like running is my best bet at this moment until I can find a good alternative to weight lifting... but even then, probably doing pushups and situps would probably work better..
but yeah, i'd be all up for it, just gotta know times and whatnot XD

Yeah, just because you have a level 80 for your Wow rogue doesn't mean you're capable of walking to the store to pick up more cheetos and beer without having to sit down for a break. Even just a walk for 30 mintues a day helps out.
