I figured, given my penchant for experimenting with foam smithing and my occasional misadventures doing such, I'd start a thread where we could talk about the novel ideas that we want to build.
The idea is this: if we bring up our projects and get feedback and input from people as to how to make it work or tweak it so it can work, the projects might go from trial and error (read as: expensive) to first time passes in most cases.
I'll kick off. What do you guys think of a dagger with a spear hook on it? I think it'd be just about the same to build and pass, just on a smaller scale.
So, "dagger hook". Discuss.

In my head, I'm seeing a javie with a catched on end of the shaft...to pull on shields? A novel idea! Dark Guard used to have a spear with, what looked like a hilt to pull shields. It was effective!

While I don't see the dagger hook being effective, if it conforms to the 2.5 rule, I don't see an issue there. In fact, it sounds like it would be fun to play with. More so if you made it like Sweet Pea's dagger, with the big handguard. Throw the hook dead center of it. I see the hook's stability being a problem in that case.
The jav catch, though...I'm shying on the end of saying that's a bad idea. Javs are thrown weapons. I would be kind of unhappy if I got smacked in the face with something like that. Certainly sounds cool, though. Could try it out and playtest it, if nothing else.
An idea I always thought was neat would be a flail with a handle at an extreme curve. Almost like it has a pistol grip. I think it would handle more like a single edge weapon, but it would be a horror for wraps.
I've also been putting some thought in a punch that doubles as a back shield. Think like the birth control shield, just with some better strap action, and probably all blue foam.

A couple years ago I saw a round shield that was bumped all around it's edge. It led me to assume it would help prevent an enemy sliding their sword down the edge of the shield to catch a limb. This probably would be prettier than it would be practical, though a fun thought.
Maybe I need to brush up on my 'book of war', but would it be possible to have a green end instead of a pomel at the bottom of a sword? I'm thinking could give an edge on a sudden close corridors situation. I do like the idea of pistle whiping someone!

Unfortunately, no. Belegarth doesn't allow pommel strikes. I thought of the same thing a while back.

Pistol whipping is for nerf wars.
But no, think about how you'd strike with a pointed pommel. Where's the first place you'd put that sticker?
More than likely it's be their face.

I'm thinking about making a weapon with an angled pommel, kinda like Ironside's idea with the curved flail. I want, however, to do this with fiberglass.
Does anyone know how, or have any good ideas of how, to bend fiberglass to a curved state?
I'm not sure if heating it would work, as I don't know how fiberglass would react to being heated with, say, an acetelyne torch.

Q heating fiberglass will not work..it becomes brittle. As far as having a flail that had a curve like Ironside is talking about there is no way that would pass simply for the wrap problem. and you would have a hell of a time with courtesy padding too.... Q your dagger idea might work....can you draw me what you are talking about? Illustrations are so wonderful for me!!

Renell has it. heating fiberglass destroys the resin, leaving you with just the glass, i.e. not good. if you want to make a cocked weapon you might want to check hot forming PVC. it still sucks though.
i got nothin' on the dagger. sounds like a lo-pro spear chopped off to hand length to me.
