Yeah, and? Some people like having the hand protection when they do things like punch blocking. If it helps save your joints, why not wear gloves?

And then there's the bad hand shots from the unpadded parts of a spear or glaive, the unintentional punch-blocking of a red sword, and the really hard shots from a regular blue. I know a guy who had his orbital (yup, that bone that forms your eye socket) crushed and needed major facial reconstruction from a bad red shot. Just because it's foam doesn't mean it's always going to be 100% safe. We try very hard to make sure the weapons are safe but this is a contact sport and we can't account for every possible situation.

Well said, Kyrian. Things like that is exactly why I support and encourage the use of protective gear.
