There was once a great but broken city overlooking the frozen Northern Sea. This city was called Icehome, in the realm known as Three Hammers, and in it stood a great and ancient library. The patron family of this library belonged to ancient bloodlines traced back to the foundation of the city. This family ran its library through a workforce of adopted clientele and young men seeking the life of the scribe. Among this workforce an anomaly, having been with the patron family since he was a young boy, his father having sent him away so that he may be better off, who was inspired by the stories he worked with and the various heroes of his age. This young man dreamt of leaving the college for a life of high-adventure and winning a name and glory for himself.
One day a messenger from the roya...l house of Icehome arrived at the library, a peculiarity, because the library was a very private enterprise and took no interest in the politics of the city. The letter was taken to the master-scribe and after a while the young man’s curiosity finally subsided and he forgot about the letter, going back to his studies.
One day, when the young man was celebrating his eighteenth summer with a good book, he was sent for by the master-scribe. When he arrived he found that he was expected and was directed into the master’s private office. Ancient tomes and scrolls lined the dusty shelves on either wall, and a large rounded desk covered in letters and books filled the center of the room. At the back of the room was a large rounded window and in-front of it facing outward with his hands behind his back stood the master-scribe, dressed in his usual brown and golden robes.
Turning, and without a word he held out a sealed letter to the young man, who recognized it immediately as the letter that had arrives a few weeks before hand. “Open it, and read it aloud,” he bade the young man. Doing as told the young man broke the seal and opened the letter. It read:
“By order of the Arch-Count, under the advice of Mageus, Court Wizard, your attendance is requested at Castle Icehome on the day following your reception of this missive. More information will be allowed to you upon your arrival.
Signed,
The Regent-protector of his majesty the king of the realm of Three Hammers”
