is there a min. length on a flail. i know it has to be 12 inches plus handle and pommel. and i know the chain cant be longer then 6inches and the head of the flail has to be 15 inches on any axis. In theory head and chain plus handle and pommel and shaft to attach the chain should be legal. just wondering

let me try to answer this and for the love of god please be nice when/if i get something wrong Book of War Rules for flail: 1.4.5. Flails must conform to the following: 1.4.5.1. The striking surface must haves a minimum circumference of fifteen (15) inches measured on separate axes. 1.4.5.2. The maximum chain/hinge length is six (6) inches. 1.4.5.3. The maximum overall length is forty (40) inches. 1.4.5.4. The hinged part of the flail must be padded with foam to keep the chain from easily entangling a Weapon or body part. No more than 1 ½ inches of chain may be exposed. 1.4.5.5. Only one hinge per flail is allowed. 1.4.5.6. Only the head of a flail is a striking surface.
its late/early so this is the best i can do while half asleep; hope it helps

Since flails are class 1 (blue) they have to meet these rules, as well.
1.4.1.1. A Class 1 Weapon under twenty-four (24) inches in length has no weight minimum. 1.4.1.2. A Class 1 Weapon twenty-four (24) inches in length or longer must weigh a minimum of twelve (12) ounces. 1.4.1.3. With the exception of double-ended weapons, a Class 1 Weapon must be shorter than forty-eight (48) inches. 1.4.1.4. The maximum handle length for a Class 1 Weapon is eighteen (18) inches or one-third (1/3) of the overall length, whichever is greater. This cannot exceed one-half (1/2) of the overall length. 1.4.1.5. The minimum overall length of a Class 1 is 12 inches plus the length of the handle and pommel.
Also, who are you?

Mousey is my cousin, he came out to a practice last season near the end of the season. He would've gotten a good answer from me, but I'm not terribly experienced at building flails, so I directed him to the boards.

I've actually never built a flail. I hope this helps: www.geddon.org/index.php/Constructing_a_FlailWhat I have seen though is that ropes strech like a mother fucker, so use a shorter length and try to strech it out as much as you can before you built it into the weapon.

Mousy, flails are fun weapons. I enjoy the crap out of them, myself. But to throw it out there, you should really, really start out fighting with a sword. If you start with a flail, you kind of cripple your progression and learn some bad habits.

recommendation for fighters they should fight sword and shield and get some experience with that prior to fighting with flail as they are trickier. Also, flail is mostly about the courtesy padding, the type of material used for cover and the dingleberries. If you have those right you are all good. If you have any questions see me at practice if I am in attendance. ( Sorry health issues)
BTW I really am not trying to be a beeyotch...trying to keep you all safe...BoW is fine but there are some real life things that it does not address......hence the need for experienced fighters. Also, I think I am pretty much the only Khador fighter besides Lomion and Wilhelm who has much experience with flails.

Building a Flail is cool, but it takes a bit of work to get right I have built two and can do it again, I would do a bag flail, they are the best and easy to do, all so no dame string to worry about,
