So, i got my persuasive speech topic ok'd by my prof. For my informative earlier this semester I talked about "What is Belegarth" and gave rules and explanations of how the game worked. My Topic for this next persuasive speech is "Why Belegarth?"
So Ill go ahead and ask it.
What do you love about Belegarth?
Why Belegarth and not another contact sport? (think Football or sorry Brooder, Hockey)((I think part of the answer here is money))
Any other info you'd like to give?
(Note):Direct quotes may be used for the speech. Thanks to anyone who helps.
(Edit: Move thread to General Foam Fighting plz?)

When is this due? I want to make sure everything I say is well thought out to convey what I want to say first.

Belegarth is a sport that is more Of a sport. Sure after a football or soccer game you Might party with your buddies, but do you hangout, cook food, and talk of stories of previous days at the same sport? sure, sometimes. It is not always planned but at belegarth, you hone your skills, beat and get beat in return, and normally end are happy about it. It is fun and invigorating, like any other sport. and just like some sports, you have scheduled "game days," which in this case are events. So far, it seems just like any other sport. Just like some other sports, you are both part of a team and an individual. you go out fighting expecting to have a good time, hopefully aiding your friends but in almost every battle, through your own skills, you help the team. Sure, you may lose in the first minute, but you have probably slowed down the other team enough to give some advantage somewhere. You might end up keeping a line at a halt for a long time just by being there, you might just do a nice flank and ninja some people and provide your line a way through. no matter what you do you always have a place, and just like any other sport, working together is what gets the job done. sure, you may just happen to win by getting lucky and some people being there, but when there are others with you, you can take on more without having to be lucky; you make your own luck. (sorry if while i'm saying all this im meandering, its late and i haven't been to sleep yet.) In this sport, the individual can shine just as much as the team, and just like other sports, the team is almost always more important. In all sports activeness is key. just like other sports having more speed or strength than the other guy can be important. And just like any other sport, in every fight and every battle, your victory or loss is never assured. My love of this game is in the physicality and camaraderie it presents. I love that in this sport, all strengths can be recognized. Being fast is just as good as being strong. Being good with a weapon is just as good as knowing how to make armor or weaponry. No matter what you are good at or what you choose to do, there's always some way to get better at what you do. And that is my late-night spiel, have a good night.

To sum up why I love belegarth:
It's active, full contact sport. You have a personal choice of what style and weapons you want to use. When all is said and done after field battles the people are hands down the friendliest sporting game there is. We understand that it's just a silly game. And lastly, in any other sport if you get injured you're forced into retirement. In belegarth, if you hurt your back or blow out your knee you can always switch to archery.

Belegarth is a both a contact and a recreational sport. But it is also more than that, it's a subculture. In real life, we come from all walks of life. We are students, teachers, fire fighters, nuclear engineers, lawyers, blue collar bitch workers, whatever. But at events, we are all nothing more than friends who want to hang out, beat on each other, and have a good time. Because of Belegarth, I would have never gotten a chance to meet so many interesting and really cool people in my life. A lot of these people are some of the most friendliest people I know, yet will call you out if you fuck up. They will drive a hour out of their way to pick you up at the airport and expect nothing in return. Yet will yell at you if you get out of control and do something stupid. I also like the fact that you can plow a guy over and beat them into the ground and then after it’s done, ask “you alright?” and they usually respond with, “Yeah, good hit man” as you’re helping them up. We have drummers, we have themed parties, we have a mix between loud drunken frat boys and more reserved, quiet people who just want to relax at camp. We don't judge on religion, color, sexual preferences, or whatever, just on a person's character and conduct (which our term for it is "don't be a dick"). Do you like fighting? Do you like hitting people? Do you like drinking? Do you like hanging out? Do you like camping? Do you like smoking hookah? Do you like hitting on girls or perhaps even gay guys? Are you the good, funny kind of asshole? If you said yes to any of these questions, then you could fit in with Belegarth. And I also like the fact that we actually hit each other. I would not be in here long if it was just a pussy tap fighting game (even though Amtgard attracts more women because of that, and I love bitches), and the fact that the ranking system isn't all that serious. If anyone makes me bow down because they are a knight or king or wants me to call them as "Lord Who-gives-a-shit" or whatever title, I'd bitch slap them and pee all over their unconscious body. I don't call people by their title and I don't want people to call me by mine, even after I get knighted. Kenny is Kenny, not Sir Kenneth the Law Giver, for example.
I believe that's my random bits of info I can give. I hope this helped you.

I skimmed what others said, but yeah, full contact, get exercise, etc, that basically anyone can do. The variety of weapons allows one to find something they can do/specialize in. Also, I must admit that I love the semi-historical aspect of it...and it costs a lot less than war reenacting which has to be so accurate that the fun gets sucked out of. Belegarth is a sport for nerds, hands down.

What I love about Belegarth:
Belegarth is a full contact sport which costs as much as you want to put into the sport. As it costs as little or as much as you're willing to invest in it, Belegarth is the most economic sport out there. Asides for the monetary advantages, Belegarth is a action-packed sport consisting of one part roleplay and three parts Mixed Martial Arts. It's also a great way to add an extra element of exorcise into your life. Fighting out on the field is a fantastic form of cardio. Above and beyond, Belegarth is fantastic for the people who are in the sport. You'll rarely meet someone you don't like. Everyone is friendly, everyone is willing to fight you and help you improve and everyone has a story to tell. This is especially true at Belegarth Events, when you have people from all over the country out there.
Why Belegarth and not another Contact Sport:
Belegarth is far beyond more than any kind of sport. It's a lifestyle and a fantastic form of social interaction. The level of sportsmanship in Belegarth is above that of other contact sports. People practice fantastic honor, telling you when their shots are bad and taking your shots respectively. If an injury occurs on the field, there's immediately a half a dozen people checking to make sure you are alright. We do more than play a game. We are a family who helps and looks out for each other. That level of dedication to your fellow fighter is something you do not find in other contact sports.
Other information:
Belegarth gives you a lot of skills you can apply outside of the sport. Mainly in the area of social skills. Since I've started the sport, I've found myself to be much more social. As I gain skill in fighting, I have found myself gaining much more self-esteem and self-confidence. I want to prosper in the sport. I want to be known, I want my realm to be known, and because of this, it has helped me with a lot of issues I have with confidence and self-esteem that I had in real life. My dedication to my realm carries over into the real world.
Belegarth is so much more than a sport. Belegarth is a life-changing experience.
