This looks really cool. How different are the rules?

Rule are a bit different....but the same.
Wrists, hands, 1 inch above the knee down are the only off limits to hit.
Also, we use unpadded rattan for weapons and full armor. There is min. requirements for the armor. If you want to try it, we have loaner gear to use to try it out.

On one hand, I'm always interested in trying something new. On the other, from a lot of the stuff I heard about SCA in general, it leaves kind of a bad taste in my mouth.
Though, cut and thrust is intriguing to me.

Eh I'm sure there's a equal amount of nonsense people believe about Bel. Some of the SCA guys I met from the Dec practice thought that we were tap fighters and did magic missile stuff on par with Nero for example. I don't know, I just know that I was impressed by the guys I met last time and had a good time. From what I can tell, here's the difference is the attack zone as shown here: And basically you can't shield edge people and you can't hit from behind unless you're facing them, then wrap shot away. Basically similar concept, hit the guy as hard as you can and don't get hit, but just slightly different enough sport, like how airsoft and paintball are both fun and similar yet different enough for their own flavor.

Yep. exactly. All groups have the "things I have heard" stuff in all groups. Some are true, some not but 99% of the time, the groups are normally good.
Attack zone picture looks right on.
It is a lot of fun, of you all want to try come on out.

Sadly, the 'things I've heard' are less about general dickishness and shenanigans, and more about somewhat serious injuries.
Still, it seems interesting enough to me. I might have to give it a shot.

I have been a heavy fighter in the SCA since 1993. Bruises and welts are very common, but aside from that not much else. I think in the time I have been fighting I have broke 2 fingers (all my fault), sprained my ankle (not watching where i was walking in woods battle at pennsic), and pushed too hard and ran out of steam. Thats pretty much it.

Yeah I've done worse then that in Bel haha. If you know what you're doing and in control it didn't seem to me to be more risky then Bel and that is something I figured after watching a view videos and trying it out for myself last month.

the rockford sca hates us I run the heavy combat for the rockford SCA shire. Not sure why anyone would think that they are hated. Even though I would say I did not know or understand what Belegarth truely was until some friends participated in it and also one of your came to our practice, I would have never hated it. Rockford SCA group would welcome you guys anytime.
